Culturefest 2010

Hello! My name is James Li and I am the Leadership Committee Chair for the 2009-2010 school year. I am here today to brag about the Leadership Committee for the 09-10 school year.

Culturefest 2010 took place on April 16th, 2010. After months of planning and hard work, I am proud to say that the event was a great success. The whole event was put together by a group of talented and dedicated freshmen. I can see them involved in all sorts of campus events in the future.

There were tables with wonderful games and treats hosted by organizations such as ECSA and EmViet. The SAAAC table had various flavors of asian breads, a poster asking ‘what does it mean to be asian-american, and of course, the fabulous and delicious Suno.

Performers included Persuasian, Zeebah, Shinjee, and Zuri. There were also a couple of surprise performances from members of Trickanometry, BAM, and KimchiCurry. And let’s not forget about the fun Gee performance that some brave souls performed in front of the crowd.

In my own personal opinion, one of the best aspects of this event was just bringing together people from the Emory community. It was a beautiful Friday evening and everyone was just hanging out while watching performers, eating snacks, and relaxing.

This event could not have happened without the support of the 55th College Council, Office of Multicultural Programs and Services, the Center of Ethics, the Office of the President, and Suno.

Emory Lunar Banquet 2010!

The Lunar New Year was on February 14, 2010. This past weekend was really jam-packed with celebrations: Mardi Gras, St. Valentine’s Day, and Lunar New Year.

Mardi Gras is a celebration/party usually celebrated before Ash Wednesday.

Valentine’s Day celebrates singles! and relationships in general.

Lunar New Year celebrates the first day of the new year according to the lunar calendar. This calendar uses the phases of the moon to determine the days. This year, the new year fell on the 14th of February.

Emory University’s Asian student organizations are celebrating this huge event with a banquet. Sponsored by HKSA (Hong Kong Student Association) and TASA (Taiwanese-American Students Association), Lunar Banquet is also co-sponsored by DPhiL, ECSA, ETC, EmViet, KUSA, and SAAAC.
